Ultra & Partners Commence 3-D Seismic Survey

Denver, CO - Ultra Petroleum announced today that its wholly owned
subsidiary, Ultra Resources Inc., in partnership with Questar
Exploration and Production Co, Anshutz Wyoming Co. and Lance Oil &
Gas Co, Inc., is proceeding with a 3-D seismic survey of 85 square
miles of the northern Pinedale Anticline. This 3-D seismic survey is
centered on Townships 32N and 33N, R109W in Sublette County, Wyoming.
Also known as the "Mesa area". Permitting, surveying and
archeological work commenced mid August, with field acquisition to
commence Sept 12th. All seismic work should be completed before the
beginning of winter big game restrictions on November 15th.

Ultra and partners have designed this survey to investigate the Lance
formation of the Pinedale anticline. This survey will feature a full
long offset/ full azimuth/high fold effort. This high-resolution data
will then be computer analyzed for structural definition, reservoir
characterization and hydrocarbon attributes.

As per the terms of Ultra's Mesa property sale (announced June 22nd,
1999), Ultra's share of the projected total cost of $2,000,000.00 for
the seismic survey is fully funded by Questar. This seismic data will
play an integral role in guiding the drill site selection for the
wells to be drilled by Ultra and partners in their year 2000 drilling
program.

Ultra Resources will operate this project on behalf of the
partnership. Western Geophysical is contracted for the acquisition of
this seismic survey.

Remember, companies wouldn't be filing suits unless they thought Ultra had something big to try and get a piece of.

I still haven't heard anything about the details or amounts of the suit. (speculation about future suits is uncalled for and reckless). Regardless the suit is minor (as obviously most other do given the reaction to it).

cheers,
