Gene,

This does not sound like Wall Street Journal quality reporting (the headline and first three paragraphs from the second link you posted):

Told You So

We knew something major had occurred last week when Rambus investors stopped threatening to sue Electronic News and started threatening to sue Intel. There certainly were some major events last week. First, Intel and Rambus handed over control of the development of the Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) technology to the memory manufacturers. Then, Intel said it would introduce a chipset that would support the rival PC-133 technology.

Some of those poor investors were caught completely off guard when the announcements, particularly the second development, hammered Rambus' stock hard on Thursday morning, sending them scurrying for someone to blame.

However, they have no one to blame but themselves; if they had been paying attention to Electronic News or if they had done their semiconductor industry homework, they could have seen it coming. All these two announcements really did was to return the memory business to its historic structure and mode of innovation.

I've never seen an article in IBD that starts off "Nyah, nyah, nyah".

So much for professionalism.
