NSM blew away estimates, which were (.16) with +25 cents/share.

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1999--National
Semiconductor(R) Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today reported a profit of
$47.1 million, or 25 cents per share, on revenues of $481.8 million
for its first quarter of fiscal 2000, which ended August 29, 1999.
Included in the pretax profit of $49.6 million is a one-time gain of
$48.4 million from the sale of Fairchild Semiconductor stock. Without
this gain the company realized a pretax profit of $1.2 million in the
quarter. In the comparable quarter of fiscal 1999, National reported a
loss of $104.8 million, or 63 cents per share, on revenues of $469.6
million.
