Charles and Thread:

Saw this on amdzone.com and didn't see it posted. It seems that AMD sent the following out to partners:

>>>>>begin quote<<<<<<<<

Many motherboard manufacturers are working diligently to supply the channel with motherboards for the recently released AMD Athlon. Currently, motherboards for the AMD Athlon are in very limited supply. However, we expect up to six different manufacturers will have AMD motherboards available in September. AMD is working closely with each of these manufacturers to ensure reliable use with the AMD Athlon processor, and will be posting an updated list of recommended motherboards to our website at www1.amd.com.

By the middle of the September, we anticipate GVC (revision 1.0), Microstar (rev. 1.0B), and FIC (rev. 1.7) will have boards available in limited quantities. Later in September, we expect Asus (rev. 1.03), Gigabyte (rev. 1.0), and Biostar (rev. 1.0) to have boards available in the channel. Of course, we do recommend you use the noted revision or newer for all of these boards. Please work closely with your distributors to secure orders for these boards. These dates are our current prediction of availability, but are approximations that could change. It is important to continually refer to the AMD website for the most updated list of recommended boards that have been tested by AMD.

Chuck, I don't know where you get the idea that Willamette "was one of the most terribly managed programs," or that Merced at its release will be behind Athlon, or that "Willamette would need a quick follow-on," or all the other conclusions you keep spewing out. You can't reveal your sources, and I can't reveal facts (good or bad) that the public shouldn't know. So there we are.

All I can say is that I disagree with just about every conclusion you came up with. Not because I want to spite you, or because I'm some bright-eyed young employee who doesn't know what's going on, but because the information I have directly contradicts yours.

In other words, I really hate to say this because it sounds like such a cop-out, but we'll just have to agree to disagree.
