Darrell - Amplidyne is a RF Amplifier company that just announced it is getting into the portion of the MMDS business that looks a lot like LMDS (i.e. very high rates, but requiring non-mobile antennas). LMDS companies (like Winstar) are given very high multiples because they have great potential for high data rate fixed last miles. The big advantage MMDS versions of LMDS have is that their signal is not attenuated by the atmosphere to anywhere near the same degree as true LMDS. (Is 50 miles an exageration? I don't know, but it will certainly be substantially more than 3 miles which is the oft touted figure for true LMDS) The big disadvantage is that the MMDS providers get fewer hertz.

Finally, note that since they are not spraying their signal everywhere and looking in all directions they are less likely, IMO, to need CDMA. However, qdog and I agree that in order to truly know, you would need to look at the real link budgets and the interference.

Hope this helps.

Clark

AMPD seems to be in the habit of announcing hot products but never making any money on them. The company has racked up 12 million in losses on 8 million in sales since it came public in 1996. They announced their internet division in May 1999 and are three months later announcing an industry leading product with almost no R&D expense. Am I sounding too skeptical?
