No, it's the style of the music. Certain forms of Irish music is the same, really. It's not surprising anyway. If you think about it, a large percentage of people who fought in the Civil War on either side were of Irish Descent.

It was apparent especially in NYC with the riots at the time. The Irish had no other work. In the South, an Irishman was of less worth than a slave. A slave had value. Even in the mines they would make a Mick a Powder Monkey because if he blew himself up no one would be out any money to speak of.

N'Orleans was and probably still is a haven for the Irish, for example. It's not hard to make the mental leap from Irish Music to Country.

Anyway, enough of that....it's not the intent of the thread. I'd sooner not pursue it.
