Aptech in education pact with Lotus, Wipro aptech-worldwide.com wipro.com Our Bureau MUMBAI, Sep. 9 WIPRO Net Ltd, Aptech Ltd and Lotus Development Corp on Thursday jointly announced the launch of their Virtual Education Network (VEN). The VEN, they said, was the first of its kind in India. It was described as ``a major initiative in the distributed learning arena'. It will create and deliver world class business education via Lotus LearningSpace to netizens across the country. The ``innovative software and courseware creation and the delivery mechanism for VEN' has been made possible by Lotus LearningSpace. This will be hosted on infrastructure provided by Wipro Net. The courseware for VEN is created by Aptech. With Lotus LearningSpace, leaners can choose to interact with classmates and instructors in ``live' virtual classes, regardless of their physical locations. It can be accessed anytime, anywhere. Wipro Net will provide the infrastructure for Web-based training services to the corporate segment and also incorporate its skill base for hosting the Web-based training platform. Connectivity to the LearningSpace servers will be provided either through the Internet or through Wipro Net's countrywide leased line network. The VEN will host courses like ``Making e-business a reality' or ``Fundamentals of Java programming' and ``Software engineering paradigms'. Mr. Vincent C.Y. Lee, Managing Director, Lotus Development Corporation (ASEAN/India), said: ``The alliance is a major move towards providing quality distributed education to the Indian marketplace. We entered into this alliance as a logical step after taking into consideration the core strengths of the three companies. This is a key focus areas for us.' Mr. Anand Talwai, Chief Executive, Wipro Net, said the new set-up would be a convergence of education and Internet technologies. He said VEN would enable users to update their skills without having to leave office. Aptech, which has a network of over 1,250 training centres across 24 countries, said its goal was to build a comprehensive education portal hosted through independent server farms in five global locations to educate 4,000,000 virtual community students every year. Wipro Net is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Wipro. Lotus is a subsidiary of IBM Corp.
