It may become apparant that on die cache is as effective as added pipelines. Don't expect the 256K L2 to be the only version of Coppermine to appear on the desktop.

As for the ability to compete. I take it that you mean in benchmarks and that was addressed above, but let us not forget that the marketplace is where they really compete and so far Intel has no competition. You can flip your foils and tout your pipelines but if you can't produce a product you don't have much more than foils.
