How digitalme will be introduced

My expectation is that we will see a product that emphasizes good internal engineering and good external compatibility with industry standards.

The future end user capabilities and design of this product will be driven by us. I have to emphasize that. The users of digitalme will be responsible for getting the product to evolve.

The initial conception is not carved in stone.

Having said that, I posted the bank card announcement here a few posts ago. What is wrong with that bank's approach is that they use this complicated smart card to save typing key strokes not to increase their card holders security! They haven't figured out that you need an identity vault out on the net to make ecommerce secure. Clearly this bank didn't get it.

I expect many other such misses. Whether these misses pollute the digitalme concept or whether digitalme emerges as the head and shoulders ecommerce leader in user identification/verification/authentication by going with an identity vault concept will be an important thing to watch.

The question for Novell will be (1) whether enough end users emerge to drive the product (2) whether the Novell team can respond fast enough to the input.

A good design team anticipates what is needed. We shall see.

<<I am not sure if the Digital-Me service requires an XML capable browsers like IE5, or if they are putting an XML-to-HTML translator in place to ensure all browsers can access the Digital-Me service. I would guess the later is true for better market penetration.>>

I think IBM makes a very good one. Maybe they are partnering :~)
