Hi Mark,

The driver in the CONFIG.SYS is a real-mode driver.

There are two parts to the CD-ROM drive getting assigned a drive letter.

1) The driver must be loaded in the CONFIG.SYS and properly initialized.

2) MSCDEX.EXE must be run from either the AUTOEXEC.BAT file or directly from a command prompt (the program comes with DOS and/or Windows and is located in the C:\DOS or C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND directory).

The name of the drive must also be the same. For example:

If the CONFIG.SYS file looks like:

DEVICE=C:\DELL\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:CDROM

The MSCDEX should look like this:

C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:CDROM

The name after the /D: switch must be the same for the drive to be assigned properly.

I know it's not explained very well, but it's the best I can do at this late hour.
