PB - Re: "This is great! This doesn't seem to be taking very long to get a foot hold. When I heard about this, I thought it was something for next year at best. Considering this product was just let out of the bag in April, I would have to guess Intel's Networking folks are doing something right! "

I've got my fingers crossed - and my expectations high !

However, I cannot forget the BOTCH JOB Intel just pulled on their Graphics Chip Business Plan.

Paul

PB,

<<The micro-engines in the IXP1200 provide the performance, scalability and flexibility necessary to augment high-speed routing ASICs in the SmartSwitch Router with VPN and enhanced QoS features, allowing Cabletron to bring to market a smarter generation of Layer 3 switches and Internet routers.>
This is great! This doesn't seem to be taking very long to get a foot hold. When I heard about this, I thought it was something for next year at best. Considering this product was just let out of the bag in April, I would have to guess Intel's Networking folks are doing something right!
And, lest we not forget the people who actually make this thing: Congratulations to the Fab 17 folks in Hudson.

This sounds suspiciously like what I thought the Level One folks were doing. Are you sure this is not from the Acclaim boys in San Jose (part of Level One)?

Chuck

The router business is more software than hardware. Cisco IOS is the Windows of the networking world. This is not going to be an easy market to crack.
