VIKINGS OPEN AS TITLE FAVORITES WITH BRITISH BOOKMAKER

(AP) - Ladbrokes, the British bookmaker, makes the Minnesota
Vikings the 9-2 favorite to win the NFL championship. The
two-time defending champion Denver Broncos were a close second at
5-1. But the outfit's deputy chief oddsmaker, Andy Clifton, who
is touted as Ladbroke's authority on American football, seemed to
hedge. "Even with the retirement of John Elway and a new
quarterback with virtually no NFL experience, we feel that the
Broncos should be taken seriously as contenders," he said through
a New York spokesman. The longest longshots at 200-1 were the
Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and
Chicago Bears.

Lock of the week: Take Cleveland plus the points. I look at the Browns winning this game outright. I've seen this happen numerous time, first game at home, exuberant fans, the defense will drill anything that moves...the NHL Lightning and Senators pulled off a first win at home as did the NBA Grizzly and Raptors.

Shoe in of the week: KC -3 over Chicago. Did Wanstedt destroy this team or what? If Bears score an offensive TD I'll start eating my laptop.
