Seagate Technology to Shut down Singapore Disc Plant
SINGAPORE, Sept 16 Asia Pulse - Seagate Technology, which
retrenched about 1,000 workers earlier this month, will shut
down its disc media plant in Tuas here in the next nine months
and could lay off a few more hundred workers.

A Seagate spokeswoman said some of the staff from the Tuas
plant would be redeployed to other Seagate plants here but
declined to state how many workers would be axed, the Business
Times reported.

Seagate has three other plants here. With the closure of
Tuas, the company would have two media planters left
worldwide, one in Woodlands here and the other in Milpitas,
California.

Seagate said this week it was cutting 10 percent of 8,000
staff worldwide over the next nine months, due to
restructuring.
