Too bad you couldn't view that piece in real video. One of the main reasons they point toward motivation for the conflict, was the fact that oil reserves off the East Coast of East Timor caused Australia and Canada to turn a blind eye and give moral assistance to the Indonesian government. It would have been good to get your impressions of that.

Where does the carrier group come from? At what cost to other strategic interests?

Or, do we just take deployment schedules up another notch? There is a point when even half-way sane sailors say, "***k this, I'm outa here!" What does that "cost" us?

What is cost of additional naval force required to "try" to keep traffic flowing through Indonesian sea lanes?

Naval and amphibious forces could easily end up in a floating imitation of Vietnam.

Beachfront property ain't cheap.
