Wayne, Food and energy prices are totally unrelated because they are rapidly going up in price and there is no inflation. Haven't you ever taken a Logic course? <vbg>

Let's see. I have $100 to spend. Food and energy took $20 last period and this period they take $24. It is obviously low inflation that is causing me to only bid $76 for non-essentials on which I was willing to pay $80 last period.

I think you've hit upon a kink in the core vs. total number.

Wayne, IMO all gov't inflation numbers are rigged to understate reality. The primary motive IMO is to slow the rate of growth of entitlements ( COLAs) It also helps perceptions in the financial markets. As you know there are many outlets for inflation (the excessive money and credit creation variety) see financial asset inflation, low savings rate, record trade deficits, real estate in some areas. >>In other words, if food and energy prices double, doesn't everyone in aggregate
have less money to spend on the remaining items and thus cause them fall in price or
rise less than they would otherwise rise?<<

h* no, wayne. u r old skool. nu pearadimes says that folks will just max ought an extra credit card or two and the govt will "adjust" the numbers b/c they "know," with no data, mind u, that inflation can't be strong. they'll chain something together to bs the nimwits.

then we'll see a huge rally!
