Future growth
Back to CPUs! As previously mentioned, in late October we'll see Coppernine (CuMine) P3s available in 600, 650, and 667MHz versions. Coppermine Pentium IIIs are shrunk down from a 0.25 micron manufacturing process to 0.18, which will result in smaller, cooler, and faster-running chips. Among the other improvements will be a doubling of L1 cache size from 32KB to 64KB. Ironically, the L2 cache will then drop from 512KB to 256KB, but this smaller cache will be integrated into the core processor design, and thus run at full CPU speed.
The 600 and 650MHz chips will be based on today's standard 100MHz FSB BX format, while 600MHz and 667MHz versions will also be produced for 820. Don't expect too much more from Intel until March of 2000, when they expect to ship 700MHz and 733MHz Pentium III chips. At the end of the year, we're going to start seeing 440BX chipsets phased out as Intel heavily pushes for 820. Here are the breakdowns for CPU release and chipset support.

Q4'99
650/100MHz
667/133MHz

Q1'00
700/100MHz
733/133MHz

Q2'00
766/133MHz

2H'00
8xx/133MHz (800, 833, etc.)

Re: Official Dell benchmarks

Wonder if we'll see Elmer Phud here talking about these benchmarks now.

WOW if I was dell or intel i wouldn't have dared to show up at IDF and posted that embarrasment.

As we all know Elmer is a benchmarking "genius".

regards,

Kash
