Yup. Dole, despite being a woman, seems much more a conventional Republican candidate than many. This may not sound PC, but I think Dole?s being a woman is still a liability, particularly after Madelyn, Janet, and other Clinton women that goofed up on the job. Given the choice, I think most folk would yet prefer seeing Bush and Powell or some other low-keyed man in the Big House.

Nevertheless I think Bush has enough clout to pull a woman like Dole into the White House (just as his father pulled in Quayle). Liddy would then be a very good VP, opening the door of the White House to any woman.

Were I Bush, I would choose Powell. Powell's pro-choice views would help show liberals that my half-hearted pro-life views are indeed half-hearted. And, the liberals being taken care of, Powell would enable me to speak a little more boldly to the pro-lifers about my own deeply held religious views for life. Also Powell still carries a lot of weight in the country, due to his military image. Additionally he will get a decent share of the black vote, particularly as Powell begins to show blacks that their views have always been more conservative than the liberals have claimed. Powell is still a Republican politician's dream right now. In fact he is more of a dream now than during the last election cycle because no one would be expecting him to run at the top of the ticket.

Of course Alma won't hear of any of this. So I would probably be forced toward McCain.
