Nokia announces new range of digital cable products

Nokia is displaying two set-top boxes from its latest range of digital cable products, providing access to the most exciting enhanced and interactive television services so far

Are they targeting the consumer market via cable companies, or perhaps initially hotels and corporate? Sounds like an interesting direction for Nokia.

Nope, I'm pretty sure it's the 7110 (advertised in the Asian edition of Fortune a couple of months back--I remember 'cos the ad included a paper model). The 9110 is a much older model, no? I think it was out in 97 or last year. The 7110 I saw also opens up; not very thick and should fit nicely in the breast pocket of a jacket. Anyway, I'll try and visit the store again and see if my eyes are playing tricks on me ;)

Tero - What are you talking about?

GPRS will be formallylaunched February 2000. The basic rate will be a less than impressive 14.4 kbps. Handsets will be generally available in the summer.

EDGE will become available xmas 2000 at the earliest.

MEA CULPA -- Yes, Tero. You're right about the model. It is the 9110. I checked today. I could have sworn... oh, well... You're the guru. I won't doubt you again :)

On a different note, any idea why the big dump on Q yesterday? According to the Q thread, it seems that the slide was triggered by a cancelled analyst conference. To some, it was an omen of missed earnings. However, Q has been so incredibly volatile lately, it could be anything. Seems that people are looking for any excuse to sell. I just don't know what to make of this company. Sure has lots of promise; the only problem is that all of it has been priced into the stock already. I prefer something steadier, like our NOK :)
