The ONLY growth COMS has is the PALM

NOT TRUE! On page 58 of the latest 10K, you can find how the three business areas of COMS did -- Network Systems, Personal Productivity (modems/NICs), and Handheld Computing. From 1998 to 1999, only Personal Productivity had a drop in revenue (but an increase in profits). In 1999 Network Systems revenues increased from 2,347 to 2,613 million (11%), profits increased from 14 to 140 million. These numbers do not include the emerging wireless network market which COMS dominates.

Captain, when have you seen an inventor dominate a market? It is usually the company that they worked for that reaps the fruits of their inventions. No matter how hard they work, Mindspring will continue to be a follower of their own invention. If they are smart they will develop a win/win strategy with 3Com and take this platform to the masses by continuing the same successful glide-path. If they get into a price war there will be no question that 3Com will be the undisputed winner; they own the OS that Mindspring uses and that costs money.
