I find your perspective on Unitarians interesting. FWIW, the phrase is UU's, not Uni, Uni's. Secondly, since they have no specific creed, and the particular spiritual path of choice is ultimately left to the individual, you get a core group of people that are Humanist, Theist, Atheist, new age, Christian, Jew, and many other belief systems all in one group.

The chances that an incredibly diverse group like that would
tend to be "predictable" is somewhat small.Given the diversity in their backgrounds, the greater liklihood is that they would be anything but predictable. Perhaps you needed to talk to more people?

I think you're being a bit obtuse. These rituals aren't expected to directly help the starving millions. They're meant as metaphors to keep the faithful mindful of the issues faced by the less fortunate. We all lose appreciation of our bounty very easily.
