"ClipCourier can distribute 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 at faster or slower than real time and its Windows NT interface makes it as simple to distribute video clips as to send an e-mail. ClipCourier also allows the user to attach metadata, or data about data, to the video clip so that editors are automatically aware of the clips arrival as well as its content. Attaching archive descriptions also makes it much easier to retrieve the clip from a digital video server for future re-purposing," adds Sheppard.

The most important features for broadcasters of ClipCourier, include:

Unattended reception, storage and notification of incoming feeds

Low cost delivery using a wide choice of links including ISDN, Satellite, WAN, LAN, Internet, ATM

Broadcast quality MPEG-2 4:2:2 encoding at user selected bit rates

Broadcast VTR emulation for direct playback control by standard production and editing systems

Low resolution browse clips can be directly viewed by desktop workstations

Clip descriptions enable automated archive, retrieval and information exchange

Scripts, production notes and user files can be attached to clips and transferred for exchange with other production systems

Direct interconnect with other broadcast production systems, Windows compatible IT and newsroom systems, and file based storage and archive systems
