The registry itself comprises of SYSTEM.DAT and USER.DAT...

True. But you are speaking of Windows\user.dat (which I would never touch), and I am speaking of Windows\Profiles\Username\user.dat. I reasoned that there would be one of these for every username created, so why not give it a shot.

Outlook Express information is kept in C:\WINDOWS\APPLICATION DATA\OUTLOOK EXPRESS...

There's nothing much there on my machine. I use Outlook98 exclusively for email, so maybe I'll poke around in that folder.

Or maybe not - my brilliant reasoning hasn't been that much help so far. :o/
