The only thing I have read by Henry James is the novelette The Aspern Papers. Have you read it? Its a wonderful story about a guy who hears it on rumor that a certain old woman in town is a former lover of Lord Byron's, and that the romance went on for some years and a lot of correspondence was exchanged. He then gets the thought in his mind that this old woman may be in possession of the best unpublished love poetry ever written, maybe the best love poetry ever written. The story is about him trying to extract these letters from the cagey old woman.
