Digital recording hits set-top
OpenTV, Thomson Multimedia and French digital interactive TV provider TPS have unveiled the Digital Personal Recorder. The system, which consists of a hard disc for digital video recording integrated into a TPS digital set-top box, enables TPS to develope new interactive services.
With the recorder built in to the digital receiver, consumers will not have to purchase additional hardware. TPS is looking to provide such services as overnight downloads of financial information or near video-on-demand. It also allows viewers to record, pause, rewind and resume live events.
"OpenTV was the obvious choice for TPS to provide technical expertise and develop new interactive services," says Alain Staron, new services director with TPS. "The added value of OpenTV software to the hardware gives us amazing avenues of interactivity."
