<<ex-husband is 49 years old, now living with relatives, smoking pot every day, and
wondering why he can't get a decent job.>> I'm sure you know that because "p" follows "q" it does not mean that "p" causes "q".
I smoked every day for twenty years and while I was working for other contractors was known for my promptness and reliability. I did not smoke on the job although I knew of many that did. A friend of mine who broke into the business at the same time I did is an alcoholic.......From time to time I hire him today as no one else will in spite of the fact that he is a talented individual. Even when he was capable of drinking all night then working all day his money went to fines, outrageous insurance bills, and lawyers defending drunk driving charges. Today he alternates from being sober [ while in some program ]for a while to being on the street for the rest of the time.
Sadly he came to my door about a month ago drunk and begging me to buy some of his tools for $10.... drinking money. I took him to the local hospital. They took him in [ they knew him by name ] but the next day... drunk again. This in spite of doctors telling him that his liver is shot and he is a diabetic and could easily die on one of his binges. He is forty years old.... This is what I call a "devastated" life.
There are many among us who would sit home and watch the tube if it were made easy enough. Perhaps you should tell your ex not to blame the weed but himself....
