I have seen nothing indicating the carriers dislike Qualcomm. Certainly, in the US they made a bet on the technology that was against the tide--when they made it. The early carriers on the bandwagon were closely allied with Qualcomm. They don't pay the Q directly, anyway. And, besides, in purchasing infra somebody gets paid for IPR. I am sure that Qualcomm developed good relations when they were initially putting up their systems, because at some point the Q was probably involved in helping the suppliers get their systems running tip top. Remember, when they built their systems initially Nortel and other infra suppliers had to build systems with very little but contractual technical goals and timetables, and they had to figure out how to do it very quickly.

It's only down the road that folks start thinking they should get something for nothing.

Frank,

>>In the Gorilla Game, Moore postulates that Gorillas are hated by their value chain
because they exert such powerful control over anyone using their ip. Being hated by
the carriers would be just one more confirmation that Q is one of the rarest of
Simians, an Enabling Gorilla!<<

Very interesting. If true, then RMBS makes the value chain for QCOM look like they're having a love fest<g>....I've never seen a company that generates as much outright venom and open derision. Maybe that's why RMBS put the gag clause in the licensing agreements.

You make a very good point though, and would also explain the "paranoia" that John Chambers of CSCO ....Everybody wants to "take down" the Gorilla....
