Fwiw Michael Dell sends his kids to public schools in Texas, and Texas has a nasty property tax deal (called robin-hood) that adequately funds the poorer districts.

Based on what I saw, which is limited because I don't have kids, the Texas schools succeed in large part because they are adequately funded relative to the cost of living there.

If you really want to create a firestorm, make it all persons reporting gross taxable income in excess of $100,000. Those are the people with the ability to change things.

Edit: We would come under that, and our kids have all gone to public school all their lives. All three in college as of next week, all three got perfectly good educations.

Some good ideas, Michael. I'll raise you one. How about insisting that to BE a superintendent, you must have kids in the school system.

Personal experience -- my two sprouts did most of high school at Department of Defense overseas schools. I noticed a direct link between school quality and whether the base/post commander had a kid in the system. Differences were dramatic. On one hand, it was, "What can we do to support the kids/schools?" On the other, it was, "90 percent of the problems on this base are caused by those GD kids."

I think it's a wonderful idea. To expose Bush for the empty-pate he is. With friends like you he really needs some enemies.
