There is no need to spend a fortune on a school if one does not have much of an idea of what to study!

So right, especially when it is Mom and Dad's money and their inheritance.

Carolyn, after liberal arts does she have any idea what she wants to go into? If so or if not, the UC California (e.g. UCSD, etc.) and California State University (e.g. SDSU, etc)
systems are still comparatively inexpensive for out-of-staters relative to what a private or even many home or nearby state universities and colleges cost especially Back East. Here's a few UC Specialties from awhile back these probly still hold true ... if she's artistic/creative/literary it's Santa Cruz; drama media & film it's LA, socio-politico & med/marine science it's San Diego, medical/environmental is San Francisco (maybe San Francisco State), agriculture/veterinary/land mgt. is Redding & a few others, business/corporate is Irvine, tech/computer/business is San Jose, academics/politics/law is Berkeley, and many UC's and all CA State's are general focus also; any would be fine for a liberal arts start then go to just about any major anyway and stay an extra semester for a teaching credential with the Bachelor's, yet they all do have their interesting specialties to uncover in the graduate courses stats. So if she's interested in California and has some idea what she may want to do for a major these might be good to look at.
My daughter's a junior and we'll just be starting to look around this year, she wants to stay around the east oh well (maybe she'll change her mind, I want to move back West). So far we've got a few names but just getting started - she's artistic and her grades aren't high so she'll be doing SAT classes and we'll be looking at colleges this year to start, too.
They'll do fine.
Seems Like Yesterday our young'uns were babies, doesn't it Mom?
