The public does not adopt all new electronic technologies. Mini-discs have been a failure in the U.S.

Also, I have had an ADSL line since June and, just like with the regular dial up internet service, it is starting to have outages. BellSouth.net regular dial up internet service became so unreliable that it was useless. And the ADSL speeds are now less than half of what they were initially. Internet access is by no means dependable yet. This problem certainly gives me pause on the hot new concept of "thin client" computers. Given the unreliability of the net, I would rather have the programs in my computer.

So given the problems with internet service now I would say VOD is still kind of Buck Rogersy

Think of all the time you spend figuring out how to use all the electronic gizmos in your house and then remedying problems. I'm having BellSouth Entertainment come out to fix my wireless cable box next Saturday since I can't do Pay for View. And the remotes are acting up. All this **** gets a little tedious. I'm 49 and want my life to be LESS COMPLICATED.

Nevertheless, I plan to take a serious look at TiVo's IPO.
