I felt the same way. The first two years weren't so terribly bad. I was still a child. But at 16 it was time to move on. The atmosphere, the rahrah, and the whole thing was a waste. To me, anyway. At least then, I don't know about now, there weren't advanced classes worth a hoot for people interested in literature and philosophy. And poetry. Two years of wasted time except for what I did on my own. But living at the foot of Hwy. 2 was great. "Boom" and you were in the mountains. Again I don't know about now, but in the mid-70's, there were great isolated hiking trails galore with gorgeous country and streams. I used to take Angeles Crest Hwy, to Angeles Forest Hwy to 18 (I think that's how it went) into Apple Valley to visit a friend. Cool drive.
