Storage solution for the new millennium
Fibre channel storage manufacturer Storage Concepts (stand 7.601) is making space for next century's digital broadcasters with FibreRAID 2000, a system for applications requiring data rates of up to 200Mbytes per second.
The system negates the need for users to purchase two separate RAID arrays to achieve storage capacities of up to 400Gbytes. Everything is contained in a 5-inch high, 19-inch wide rack mount chassis. FibreRAID 2000 also incorporates hot swappable disks and power supplies.
Chris Cuthbert, managing director of European operations for Storage Concepts, says: "With the advent of the new HDTV standards, there is a real need for storage systems capable of accommodating the higher bandwidth requirements. FibreRAID 2000 will go a long way to satisfying the needs of most HDTV users. Support for full HDTV standard bandwidth is easily achieved by operating two FibreRAID 2000 arrays in parallel."
The company has also expanded its line of real-time fibre channel storage products with the new SentryRAID which is designed for applications that require portable, removable disk storage for capturing real-time, high bandwidth, uninterruptible data at up to 85Mbytes per second.

So when is the 2G spec gona be done??

Fibre channel bodies merge
The Fibre Channel Association (FCA) and the Fibre Channel Community (FCC), both established to advance the technology and storage area network solutions, are to merge into the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA).
"We are confident that combining the two organisations into a more focused entity will further enhance the promotion and establishment of fibre channel technology within multiple industries," says Michael Fitzpatrick, chairman of the FCC's board of directors. "The merger ensures a unified approach to the education and implementation of fibre channel solutions worldwide."
"The creation of the FCIA is a strategic move designed to provide a cohesive platform for driving the industry and promoting solutions," adds Dennis Talluto, chairman of the FCA board of directors. "The FCIA is now the industry's primary resource for information and expertise relating to these leading-edge technologies."
According to FCA Europe's chairman, Paul Talbut, "We are in full agreement with the merger and see this event as a proactive step to develop a world class presence with a cohesive global vision and singular goal of promoting fibre channel solutions worldwide."
