It was a weird musical- I never knew anything about its historical context. I think I wrote about this once, that in a scene where Pippin leaves Catherine, I had to run after him up some steps, calling Pippin Pippin. I love you! And I tripped and fell flat on my face. The director loved it and wanted me to keep it. The boy playing Pippin was gay. He HATED having to kiss me. It has to have been the most unemotional, most pristine, kiss I've ever endured. It's hard to feel enthusiastic when you know someone is cringing at the act of touching you.
