Good news, but we knew this didn't we.

PALO ALTO, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Confidence that Network Associates Inc. (NETA) will make Wall Street's earnings estimates for its third quarter drove its shares up 8.1%.

The company's stock climbed 1 17/32 Friday to close at 20 11/32 on Nasdaq volume of 8 milion shares. Average daily volume is 4 million shares.

Network Associates' rise also may have been helped by the news it plans to unveil an alliance with Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) on Monday as part of a company product announcement.

A First Call survey of 17 analysts expects the company to earn 9 cents a share in the third quarter.
