Thank goodness we missed the Barney phase. I don't believe I could have stood it. They were too old by the time Barney came around. They loved Sesame Street, and taught themselves to read and write by watching it, both of them could read when they were three, a combination of being read to by me, and watching Sesame Street. I thought it was a fluke when the older did it, but the younger did it at about the same age. Maybe not just Sesame Street, as I taught myself to read when I was four or five, but I think that would have made it easier. "This program has been brought to you by the letter A." Stuff like that.

And then they jumped straight to the Power Ranger stage. I went nuts tracking down Power Rangers, I looked all over the country, and paid scalpers, the whole bit. And then boom, they were no longer interested in Power Rangers, and I gave all the toys to the Salvation Army, hope they made some little kid's day.

But we missed a lot of the crazes. The younger was a little bit into the Beanie Baby thing, but I got burned on Power Rangers, and I didn't encourage him.
