John, You can sell short with detak online. There are only buy and sell options though. If you want to sell short, you just sell shares of the stock which you don't own. One problem is that you cannot box your shorts. Also a lot of internet-related stocks are not available for shorting from detak. Hope it helps.

John, I use Datek, and I short stock of MU with quick execution. A problem for me, but not for you, I assume, is that Datek does not accept stop loss limits for listed (NYSE) stocks. I am not available to watch the market every day, so I've been caught holding the bag on shorts because I couldn't stop out on MU. Otherwise I have very little to complain of.
