It's a mystery to me what is a mystery to you. My post 1341 was not anger, but trying to say that I thought people were doing a remarkably good job on this thread of "getting" it. Colleen had posted to you "It seems that no matter how plain and simple you try to explain something to some people, they just don't get it." That sounded angry to me, so I asked for clarification, who she thougt wasn't "getting it" and exactly what "it" was. Without those facts, her remark seemed to me merely negative without precedent, which is not useful. She didn't answer my questions, but responded "Christopher Hodgkin, you're sure full of pi** and vinegar. You're a person who says it like it is. Well I am too. Like it or lump it, period." Which (a) was unresponsive to what I had asked here and (b) showed that perhaps she was in fact the person who didn't get it. But instead of counter attacking, I simply posted back "I'm not worried about either liking or lumping it. I still want to know what exactly you were referring to in your post. " To which she responded that it was a message between personal friends and "not meant to be thrown up for discussion." To which I simply said that maybe then it should have been said in PMs, not in public messages which distinctly ARE thrown up for discussion by anybody on the thread unless clearly marked otherwise. but I was never upset by it. I was more confused. I felt that at that point the thread was doing a remarkably good job of dealing with some hard issues without people attacking or getting their noses bent out of shape. Which is a rare thing on SI and to be encouraged. So when somebody suggested otherwise, I wanted to follow up to see whether I had missed something, or whether there was some confusion which should be straightened out before the thread fell into acrimony. Not sure this answers your question, but there was never any anger on my part to understand, and I don't feel any need to be appeased. Do you or Colleen?
