The tricks, Bill, are actually standards of the courtroom: muddying the issues; trying to suppress every piece of evidence, or at least call its provenance into question; harassing the opposition with side-issues; endlessly tossing out red- herrings in the form of "alternate scenarios" and the questioning of motive; and providing "layers of defense", and litany of fallback positions.....By the time the process is well along, no one knows what to think.....
