RF Micro Devices Develops GaAs Low Noise Amplifier/Driver Amp with Very High Dynamic Range Business Wire - September 13, 1999 10:17 GREENSBORO, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999--RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, offers two new low noise amplifiers that combine an extremely small size with a very high dynamic range. The RF2361 and the RF2362 are both produced using GaAs HBT (gallium arsenide heterojunction bipolar transistor) process technology. The RF2361 is designed for digital cellular applications. The component functions as an outstanding front end low noise amplifier or as a power amplifier driver amp in the transmit chain of digital subscriber units. The IC features an adjustable bias current, a high intercept point and a power-down feature that can be used to turn off the device completely when it is used as a PA driver. When the RF2361 is functioning as an LNA, the bias current can be set externally. Designed to operate on a single 2.5V-6.0V power supply, the RF2361 can operate directly from a single cell Li-ion battery when used as a power amplifier driver. With an operating range of 150MHz-2500MHz, the IC is ideal for use as a TDMA/CDMA/FM cellular PCS LNA, a low noise transmit amplifier or for general-purpose amplification in commercial and consumer systems. The RF2362 is a low noise CDMA/TDMA PA driver amplifier with a very high dynamic range designed for transmit digital PCS applications at 1880MHz. The IC functions as an outstanding PA driver amp in the transmit chain of digital subscriber units where low transmit noise power is a concern. RF2362 features include low noise, a high intercept point, adjustable bias current and a power-down control that can be used to turn the device off completely. Operating from 150MHz-2500MHz, the RF2362 is designed for applications such as TDMA/CDMA/FM PCS Tx amplification, 2.4 GHz WLAN systems and general-purpose amplification in commercial and consumer systems. Both RFMD(TM) components are offered in extremely small standard SOT23-5 packages. The devices are available for immediate shipment from RFMD, and both are priced at less than $1.50 per unit in order quantities of 10,000 each. For a complete listing of RFMD(TM) products and services, refer to the company's Designer's Handbook. Free copies in print or CD-ROM format are available directly from RFMD by calling 336.664.1233, extension 6652, or sending an e-mail request to afinney@rfmd.com. RF Micro Devices, Inc., an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer, designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary RFICs for wireless communications applications such as cellular and PCS phones, cordless phones, wireless LANs, wireless local loop handsets, industrial radios, wireless security systems and remote meter readers. The Company offers a broad array of products - including amplifiers, mixers, modulators/demodulators, and single-chip receivers, transmitters and transceivers - that represent a substantial majority of the RFICs required in wireless subscriber equipment. The Company's strategy is to focus on wireless markets by offering a broad range of standard and custom designed RFICs in order to position itself as a "one-stop" solution for its customers' RFIC needs. RF Micro Devices, Inc. is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol RFMD.
