You are right about A & B, please insert "The murders of .. " before "A and B".
The jury will not ordinarily specify to a fact such as the location in Sacramento --- its called a special verdict. Even if it did, if the defendant was tried a second time, the special verdict would not bind the second jury unless the judge demanded it (reversible error -- jury is most places the exclusive finder of fact). A jury is free to find what it wishes, despite jury instructions. The judge is free to change decisions (many place) dismissal not withstanding jury etc.
You have to remember that our courts are courts of law (i.e. tradition) and not courts of justice (i.e. fairness). If judges started making fair decisions the place would be in an uproar.
