Eric L. Sure, as long as the "one standard" facilitates onging competition to beat those who sit on their hands and fosters rapid innovation. But actually, I would suggest that the only "single standard" in the real world context will be a paper "single standard" which in fact permits and encourages multiple approaches such as the 3rd gen CDMA "single standard" [sic.] - actually 3 possibile approaches with multiple variations possible.
