Skip: All this about the sale of the handset division is as was the word in the old Nixon days "inoperable". The Q's management has no interest in selling the handset division now. So what are we doing here, just trying to pass the weekend debating the merits of something that is not about to happen?

Nothing in the history of the Q's management performance indicates that there is any reason or any intention of shooting itself in the foot - which eliminating the "handheld wireless device division" (which is laughably called the "handset division" by the advocates of its sale) just at the point when wireless data using handled devices as a supplement (and eventually replacement for) the PC is about to take off. In sum, this would be madness. And one thing the Q's management is not - is insane. Visionary maybe but very practical. A handset division sale now would not just be shortsighted, it would be a move to emulate Motorola's ineptness - cutting of the hand that you need for the future reach to the internet and other wireline services - the wireless / internet nexus.

Perhaps instead of wasting our time on nonissues it might be useful to discuss what may really happen. That is the broadening of the handheld device division under the Q's management to handheld data appliances which probably will have the shape of a phone, and some voice functions, but data will be the instruments' primary purpose.

On the other hand, how about an update on the US - China talks? Now there is a discussion worth having. :-) Maurice where are you?

Chaz

For 12 billion id sell it. Thats almost 35% of Q's market cap that provides only 15% of earnings. They could make $600 million in tresury's a year thats more then they will make this year after rightoffs.
