Re: "Given the brilliance of the Athlon design, and the speed with which it was successfully developed for production, it isn't surprising that those responsible for it are highly sought after. Are you saying that there are no such problems at Intel? Isn't that something of an insult to Intel's design staff?
PS. Just want to make clear that I think that Intel's desigers are equally good. My guess is it's the political crap that they have to design through - primarily "rambus no matter what" - that is holding them back right now."

I'm sure Intel and everybody else for that matter suffers from attrition. However, the poor performance of AMD's stock options, poor moral, general lack of cash and the looming worry of what Jerry's going to do to *uckup any project have been cited as extra reasons to leave AMD. These designers now have a gold star on their resumes so why not go where the gold is?

RE: <Aside to PB/tenchusatsu - might we have seen Coppermine months sooner if 820/840 were targeting PC100/PC133?>

I'm sure that PB/tenchusatsu will confirm that Coppermine's slip was all its own and not due to Rambus. However, Coppermine's actual launch may be a different story since word has it that Coppermine is pouring out of fab in huge volume and Intel seems to have done everything they could to favor Rambus and not allow sdram. So if Rambus is not delivered in equal volume what happens to Coppermine? (Maybe 810e saves the day.)

But could you imagine what the Coppermine launch would have been like if it were totally dependent on Rambus and the date had not slipped?

Dan - RE: "might we have seen Coppermine months sooner if 820/840 were targeting PC100/PC133?"

According to Paul, Intel had problems making Cuontimemine such that they wouldn't run at their proper speed except at room temperature.

In case y'all have forgotten, Cuontimemine and Camino were supposed to be released Intel-style last week. Has anyone seen them yet?
