In all fairness, Michael, it is a federal district, and the nation's capitol. In the past 40 years, we have had Republican Presidents for half the time (Nixon/Ford--8 years; Reagan--8 years; Bush--4 years). Plus, we have a majority Republican house and senate. Frankly, I'm not sure it's fair to say that liberals have been "in charge of" the federal district for 40 years. I think your distress at DC's deterioration is addressable to both parties.
