Eric L. As often is the case, you make an astute observation. When I started looking at Unwired Planet - now Phone.com since its IPO - I was amazed to find that the WAP umbrella combined with PHCM's browser can be used on all repeat all current wireless technologies: not just GSM but all: GSM, TDMA, CDMA, PHS and all the digital flavors. WAP is very very flexible. This is one area where the US and Europe seem to be willing to work together - sort of a first, no?

Think I am accurate in this. If not would appreciate correction and comments welcome in any case.

In particular am curious how Symbian fits into WAP or relates to it.
