Hi Chief, Don't work for Mr. Softie. That link was the only one I knew about to upgrade a browser. Most of the folks on the high powered computer threads I have been following like this one http://www.siliconinvestor.com/subject.aspx?subjectid=18946 have good things to say about IE5 and Windows NT, and less and less good things to say about Netscape since AOL took them over. But that was not the purpose of my post, which I now realize was spam (defined by SI as multiple posts of the same message, regardless of content). Whether Netscape or Microsoft, or another, the message was just to say that upgrading might be the solution to some of their internet ills. Privately, I have recommended many people get upgrades, and it has solved many peoples internet problems. Just thought I could help more by posting on the public domain of SI. Many people only view a few threads so I thought I would shotgun the threads, to try and help as many people as possible. I posted to multiple sites,... 10 in total were allowed, but I had 20 windows open to send some more,... because those sites had posters who have complained about problems with screens freezing, lack of access to sites, various error messages etc. I use to get the same problems before I upgraded my browser and my operating system. All those problems disappeared after I downloaded the latest versions. I didn't know that the SI computer counts the number of posts, and looks at the content, and after a certain number of posts, it asks you something like "How many times are you going to keep posting that same message?" As I mentioned above, I had twenty windows open and had sent the message 20 times before I saw the SI message, and the SI computer had already decided I was a vicious spammer, and had automatically thrown me in jail (gggggg). I was released by SI Bob a few days ago, and have gone to spammer remedial school (ggggggg). My jail stay was not in vain. Privately and publicly I have received many messages saying many of the problems people have had surfing, have been alleviated by the upgrades. There were some problems related to hardware that could probably only be fixed by getting a pentium 2 or higher computer with newer components. Unfortunately the current software appears to be outgrowing the old 486 processors, and the low performance capabilities of the computers purchased in the early to mid 1990's. Lots of posters still have these computers as their primary system. That may change soon, if the Y2K bug puts their lights out. Sorry to anyone who may have had problems with the IE5 download. It is possible to get a bum download. It is also possible to have a compromised operating system, or some other issue that causes problems. Microsoft tech support is quite good. Most people I have communicated with, have discovered that if they follow the upgrade instructions carefully, and their existing computer is operating on an uncompromised version of Windows 95 or higher, the IE5 download, or the latest version of Netscape enhances their ability to use the internet, and Stockwatch. As has been mentioned earlier on the thread, the latest browsers handle Java much better than earlier ones. That's a good reason for an upgrade if you are using Stockwatch. Even my broker (Nesbitt) is recommending that I have IE5 now for trading online. russett, the baaaadddd spammer.
