Ming - 802.11 is a standard, but Wi-LAN would not get royalties. The standard is not owned by Wi-LAN.
I think that we're just have to watch and wait as 802.11a gets up to speed, and while we're watching, a lot of users will go the 802.11 route. If I've understood correctly, Wi-LAN is targeting a specific market segment, estimated at $1.5 - $2 billion. If other suppliers get other parts of the market, so be it. Wi-LAN's market lies largely in the WLL area; the WOFDM technology will be incorporated into that.
There is a hope that WOFDM will gain acceptance in other bands and standards, but that hope lies in the future. I'm guessing that a lot will have to do with whether Wi-LAN can get it to market, and whether it is seen by users as a superior wireless solution.
