I've been reading a little stuff here and there about what the net result will be (post-crash) ... I'm sure the internet has and will make a difference, but don't agree with those who think this will usher in some period where things will be different --- people forget so quickly and most refuse to learn from their past mistakes -- even if they are very costly. I think a lot about what the aftermath will mean to the biz that I am in. whenever I get the chance in my work I try to discount rosy projections about growth. I wish I really knew enough at this point to make some rough guesses as to what will happen to energy (electrical) demand and the price of natural gas for instance --- I am going to spend some quality time on the issue soon. Our company serves predomintly rural, residential customers and everyone says that electricity demand is fairly inelastic, but I don't know. We do have one very big industrial customer and a change there could mean some differences in the future ... The electricity markets have changed forever, whatever happens, with the huge price spikes that we got a couple of years ago ... amazing that something that usually trades around 25 - 35 bucks can go to $4000 or $5000 in a few days -- wonder how much of that was supply and demand -- must've been a lot of folks short. Wish I could have had the option of selling my electric supplier all of the energy I'd have used for those few days and turned all my electricity off ...
