We were talking about an index, Charley No, you were talking about an index. I was just riffing off your allusion. I am not proposing banning or burning anything, that is a red herring. But I guess coming down with verdicts was a little heavy handed, I was just having fun sorting the frauds from the quacks. I will refrain from using the term hoodlum in the future. In your previous post you responded with humor and I retorted with a blunderbuss of sorts. Sorry. Arrogance combined with irritation can do that sometimes. I'm sure you're a nice lady and I didn't mean to bowl you over on a Sunday morning. I still have not heard a defense of the people I mentioned, only attacks on weaknesses in my argument. What do you make of Voltaire's comment to Rousseau? It seems to undermine the Social Contract a great deal. I tend to get worked up when considering Margaret Sanger's influence as well. If my read is correct, the left-wing salons were abuzz with her ideas on eugenics. Didn't Bertrand Russell once say, "We really should find a painless humane way to deal with our lame and infirm."? It bothers me that people this ruthless are held up as icons today. I have read both Huck Finn and Of Mice and Men. They are two of my favorite books. I spent a summer once reading nothing but Steinbeck. Didn't the left want to ban Huck Finn and the right Of Mice and Men? I think on this score the left and right are equally ridiculous.
