Mike: Thanks. Appreciate the quick answer.

You are right of course on your main point. TV will be a major fixture in our living rooms and throughout our houses for a long long time.

But Gilder's point was that while that will be so, (after all AM radio is still alive and strong), the future does seem to be with a wireless / internet nexus of some sort.

And particularly from my perspective as a "senior" in chronological age at least, and having seen quite a few unanticipated changes in life which were not obvious ahead of time, I wonder if there isn't a major advantage in not being locked into a technology which "feeds" the couch potato but all is one way.

Does Gemstar have any involvement at all in two way "interactive" use of TV at least? Curious.

No one has any idea how this will play out of course.

I was hoping that Gemstar had some way to participate in video streaming which seems to be coming on strong on the internet. Is there any technical or business reason why Gemstar is locked into broadcast or cable one way TV exclusively?

PS Admit of course that my perspective is not the usual, particularly since I see the wireless / internet nexus coming much faster than many would have guessed even one year ago, and my Q investment does color my view - as does my interest in leading edge technologies in wireless and fiber.

PPS And while TV sets are in most of our homes, wireless phones (for which read - handheld apprliances) are likely to be "hot" this holiday season all around the world - and of course are now "essential" to anyone who is anyone in business. In Asia for example, status much more linked to a sexy phone than a TV.

Back to the real world. Football on TV. :-)
