I guess our experiences have just been different...

Because in the months I've been using it, I can count the number of times I've had trouble getting data on one hand. I know that hasn't been the case with everyone, but I have no serious complaints about reliability.

I'm curious if other people have the same experience as I have had with QCharts.

I have been using Qcharts since midyear 1998 and have generally been very satisfied with its performance. The terminal program, especially, is extremely well written and the programmer seems to have a good feel for the market and for programming. On most days, QCharts, even with its problems has been very useful and the data has been, at least, usable. That means that I can generally tell real data from late or bad data just by looking at it. In the back of my mind, however, I always wonder if I'm getting good data on any sub screen.

My observation is that ever since QCharts announced that it had reached 5000 users the quality of the data has gone down steadily. During this same time it seems that a new beta version of the QCharts terminal program has come out every week. Each new version of the QCharts program has a better set of features than the previous version and I would hate to give any of them up but I would in an instant if I could get better data integrity.

Anyway, I would like to see how many others are having the same kind of data problems as I am. I'll list some here.

1. The ISLD book almost always stops working (or never starts) as the first indication that data is failing. I was very happy to find the ISLD book viewer on one of the beta releases. The ISLD data, however, is now almost always not usable. Sometimes I can find a different server with good ISLD data but less and less often nowadays. I agree with Gibbons when he says that switching servers should be allowed to proceed automatically because that will result in the best load leveling for their network.

2. The prices listed on the LII display and the prices on the T&S and the chart do not agree. Often, though, one of these three data displays can be seen to be the most accurate and I then use that one. Most of the time it seems to me that the T&S window has the best, most recent data. This condition can result in not trusting any of the data and then I just stop trading. I have only had one time where QCharts left me blind when I was in a bad position and I had to go to an alternate quote provider to get out of my position. This cost me some extra money.

3. The data on the LII screen gets many bad (old?) entries and the stock that is being displayed appears to be trading around the inside bid and ask by several levels. Switching servers can often cure this problem but it is getting harder and harder.

These three problems seem to me to be data integrity problems rather than speed or load problems. Or they may be brought on by extra load. Or something else.

On a previous post to Gibbons I asked what we could do to help QCharts get past this problem. Here I offer to take no new releases of QCharts beta for awhile (six months) with the hope that putting those resources that are now updating the program onto stabilizing QCharts data integrity.

I hope that my comments are interpreted as an attempt to help and not just a general complaint. I sincerely believe that QCharts is the best system of its kind based on price/performance. I would hate to lose this valuable resource. I want to do everything that I can to help.
